This week’s highlights/On the road with Chloë (Updated)

There are a couple of big names coming up at the Box this week! I’ve been banging on about it for a while to everyone who’ll listen, so I hope Warrior Soul don’t disappoint when they hit there on Wednesday; with four support acts it ought to be a pretty action-packed night.  Not quite as hotly anticipiated, but still a band I’d like to see, Echobelly are at the Box on Saturday along with local tunesmiths James and the Giant.  And lest we forget that everyone started somewhere, there are also a few less well known (at least by an old git such as myself) bands worth checking out at the Box on Friday — Lost Scenes, Time4Heroes, Talk is Cheap, and Friday’s Last Kiss.

Less anitcipated but still a good night, the new-and-(hopefully)-improved Limey offers a free punk/new-wave band on Sunday, an Aerosmith tribute on Thursday, and if it weren’t for Echobelly at the Box I’d be inclined to indulge my secret shame and go and check out Kick up the 80s on Saturday.

If Aerosmith aren’t your bag you may have better luck at the Imp with Beardsmith — they have quite a devoted following, so if you fancy finding out what they’re about then things normally kick off about 9:30.

Not sure yet what’s on at the Express, etc., but Bar 22 will be having their usual Buskk event on Friday evening so if you fancy a diversion on your way home from work it’s worth popping your head in.

A couple of other events of note over the weekend from some of my favourite local acts: as well as supporting Echobelly, James and the Giant are playing at the reopening of Sandbach Market Square on Saturday afternoon (they start at 4pm, but the event goes on pretty much all day); Chloë are out and about at the Nag’s Head in Wheelock on Friday and the Norfolk Arms in Stockbridge on Saturday.

Speaking of Chloë (ah, what an elegant segue) I tagged along with them last night when they played at the Swan in Stone; as it’s not entirely within the remit I’ve given myself I won’t spend too much time talking about it short of saying that once again they played a blinder and raised the roof, the audience couldn’t say enough good things about them afterwards, and new guitarist Micro seemed as if he’d been playing with them for years. These guys are something special, and if you get a chance to see them don’t miss out!
