Coming soon: Turin Brakes

If you’re a fan of modern acoustic-y sounds, you might enjoy Turin Brakes, playing on Thursday 2nd December at Square One.

Quoting from the press release: “The pair earned critical acclaim in 2001 from the release of their debut album ‘The Optimist LP’, which was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, and enjoyed success with singles ‘Mind Over Money’, ‘Underdog (Save Me)’ and ‘Emergency 72’. They later scored a top five UK hit with ‘Pain Killer’ in 2003.

Their latest album ‘Outbursts’ was released in March this year and the download single released from the album was ‘Sea Change’.

Special guests supporting the band on the night are to be announced. Doors are at 7.30pm. For tickets, priced £12.50, visit Square One, Mill Street, or headKASE hair salon in Nantwich Road.

For more information, email controlmusic@hotmail.co.uk.”

I’ve got a strong feeling this one’s going to be packed, so it’s probably worth getting your tickets early.

Are you free on Saturday?

Covers band FOULPLAY have unveiled their new drummer, Andy Bibby.  I hear that Andy has an impressive musical CV, having played all over the country with Oblivion for 14 years, as well as with many other bands and musicians. He now works as a session drummer and drum teacher as well as playing with The Brunswick’s resident Booze Band.

Andy makes his debut with Foulplay at The Express, Mill Street, Crewe on Saturday 27th November, followed by The Crown, Earle Street, Crewe on Saturday 4th December.  Both shows start at 9pm and are free admission.

Tour Manager Mat Hall said, “Although we were gutted to see Shoey leave the band, we are all delighted to welcome Andy to the team.  He’s an excellent musician and rehearsals have gone extremely well.  We can’t wait for the first shows!”
